Terence Crawford is not just a special boxer and fighter, he’s a special, uncopiable, athlete who is one of the best fighters of these times.
Crawford is currently readying himself for the biggest challenge of his life in September against Canelo Alvarez, when he steps up in multiple weights to try to beat him and do the impossible.
But many new fans in the sport might not be aware of how his success really got started in professional boxing.
Unlike many American fighters he had to travel to win the world title and it all started for him really in that regard when he went to Scotland and beat Ricky Burns, who was at the top of his game at the time.
‘Bud’ Crawford annihilated Ricky Burns on his home Scottish soil, speaking to the ‘Ringside seat with the Tassie’ show, Crawford opened up on the fight and his first world title:
“My mindset was to win at all costs. I didn’t leave the hotel unless I was going to the gym or doing media work. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I was isolated in my room, telling myself I didn’t come this far to leave empty-handed. I worked out every day and stayed in my room. Quiet.”
An almost maniacal, Michael Jordan-like mindset and tunnel vision to win.
It served him well over the years.
Today Crawford is now 41-0-31 KO and if he were to beat Canelo in September, he’s go down as one of the greatest boxers that ever lived.
The win over Burns was all the way back in March 2024 now when Crawford shot to stardom originally.
Becoming lightweight world champion at the time.
