The one and only Mike Tyson is in the house and in town in NYC tonight for the big Fatal Fury boxing card and he’s in great form at the minute.
The boxing legend and former heavyweight champion of the world is in New York in an analyst capacity this week and later on.
Speaking to Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger before the fight, Tyson said showmanship is important in boxing time boxing events and remembered one cigarette smoking world champion called Ricardo Mayorga:
“See, people love that. That’s what people talk about. They don’t talk about how good a fighter he was or how bad—he smoked cigarettes before a fight. You have to have some audacity. You have to have some showmanship.”
Mayorga was a very wild individual, a gang member at one time in Nicaragua.
A serious guy Mayorga, in boxing he went off the hinges sometimes in escalating street fight situations and frequently smoked cigarettes at weigh-ins, at press conferences and even in the ring after his fights.
