Ryan Garcia went off the rails wildly not previously on substances and alcohol and was even speaking to fans on some occasions out of his head.
Despite his blackouts and some mayhem away from boxing, which came during and even before his one year ban from boxing, he has no regrets.
He told leading MMA/combat sports broadcaster Ariel Helwani on Helwani’s podcast:
“Nah, not really (no regrets). In this day and age, everybody’s saying crazy stuff—you see all the streamers saying whatever they want. It’s just the era we’re in. But it’s not how I want to handle myself. For a long time, people said a lot of dumb things about me, and then I started playing the same game they were playing. I guess I played it too hard. But at the end of the day, I don’t want to go down that route. I want to keep myself more professional, focus on being the best fighter I can be, and not get caught up in that trolling game like so many people do.”
Garcia seems in a good place mentally at the moment, relaxed, intent on pure, maximum violence only, like he should be as a fighter.
That’s not a good thing for a fighter, alas, it’s a great thing.
A happy, violent proficient professional fighting man who is calm and relaxed is a killer, a calculated one, which Garcia is.
His demeanour and temperament is excellent at the moment but so is his opponent’s.
Boxing is a good thing for Garcia and maybe he could look at training fighters even down the road, maybe something for him to think about at some point.
That moment of sweet violence for Ryan Garcia comes on Friday night in New York against Rolly Romero.
Both are looked in to do as much harm to one another as possible.
Roll on.
