Boxing is riding the crest of a new tech revolution wave as a sport but the WBC chief has made some important points.
Boxing is set to go into a boom time worldwide internationally in 2025 and beyond and technology is playing a part in that, the likes of the WBC are one of the biggest organizations in the sport.
Speaking to the Ring Magazine podcast the WBC boss had some words of caution however:
“The key is to understand the difficulty to have a reliable, honorable publication. Now, anyone is a reporter with a telephone, with a Facebook account, with a Twitter or X account; they feel they’re reporters and confuse and engage in complicated reports, fake news, invented news just to get likes and followers. The Ring publication is honorable, and as a member of an organization like the WBC, we must respect criticism when it is done in good faith, when it is done with good intent to make the sport better. Of course, we take it responsibly; we look at what it is and it helps us become better. So, I do respect Doug Fisher (of the Ring Magazine); he’s a great guy. I know him, we’ve been always on good terms, and absolutely, anything that is reported that can be critical is more than welcome; it’s needed because you need to have that balance. We make mistakes; we’re human, and when you don’t see the side and think you’re doing everything great and only believe in what you’re doing, you make a big mistake, and it’s very easy to lose yourself into that world.”
Some common sense above for certain.
Certainly, balance and weighing up things with balance scales in all aspects is needed in terms of what he mentions above.
