With it being Black History month last month in February and Irish American and Women’s History month this month in March, and Claressa Shields boxing this week, it got us thinking about a possible big fight that could be made in female boxing at the moment.
Claressa Shields vs Katie Taylor.
Taylor (17-0-6 KO) from Ireland has already boxed six times in America as a professional to date.
With over thirty three million Irish Americans this is a natural audience for her to tap into.
Shields being an Olympic double Gold medalist winner for the USA makes this possible.
Moreover, they are two of, if not the, biggest names in female boxing at the moment.
All-action fight styles and the whole friendly boxing rivalry between the two countries would make this a serious draw.
There is a slight difference in weight class but this could surely be compromised on at a catch weight.
Shields (10-0-2 KO) boxes on Friday via pay per view against Canadian Marie Eve Dicaire (17-0-0 KO).
Taylor is yet to confirm her first fight but if Shields were to win surely a fight could be a possibility later in the year.
It could make a lot of sense later in 2021.
