What a year it was for boxing last year and the resurgence of the heavyweight division obviously had a large part to do with it.

Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank has no horses in that race anymore, as they say, with most of Arum’s company’s top fighters now boxing in the lower weight classes mostly.

But that has not stopped the promoter chiming in on who he believes the best heavyweight on the planet at the moment is.

Respected British journalist Gareth A. Davies revealed on his Twitter account earlier today:

“Just chatted with legend Bob Arum. Amir Khan date for Terence Crawford fight is April 20. New York or Las Vegas. Vasyl Lomachenko will slowly mop up the 135lb belts in 2019. Based on Dec 1, Arum tells me Tyson Fury is No 1 heavyweight in the world. Without hesitation.”

Indeed, even though WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is American — the vast majority of not only American boxing fans but most world boxing fans felt Tyson Fury did enough to get the decision against him last month in LA.

There’s only one way to settle things as they say — and that’s by having a rematch at some point.
