Eddie Hearn Makes Controversial Claim About Wilder vs Fury Rematch

Promoter of Anthony Joshua, Eddie Hearn has thrown a possible spanner into the works of a Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury rematch as he bids to land his man Anthony Joshua a fight most likely with Wilder as his preference.

Or possibly even a fight against Fury.

Recently Wilder and Fury drew in a controversial decision and the WBC expressed their support towards a rematch happening.

However after many media outlets reported that the WBC ordered the rematch to happen between the two next up — Hearn is now saying that Wilder doesn’t have to take the rematch with Fury if he doesn’t want to.

Speaking to Danny Flexen of Seconds Out, Hearn said:

“They didn’t order anything. They said we would approve it. They don’t have to fight each other (next).”

He added:

“I think if they ordered it, he (WBC champion Wilder) has to take it. When you order a rematch — if Wilder decides not to fight Fury he’ll be stripped. What they’ve said is you have a mandatory in Dominic Breazeale (next) however we think this rematch (with Fury) should take place and we will sanction and approve it.”

Whatever the case might be one suspects boxing fans would be happy with any combination of fights between the three fighters above next year.

All considered the top three heavyweights in the world at the moment.
