The whole crossover between the sports of boxing and mixed martial arts continues. Notably on the part of MMA fighters who have been calling out boxers quite a bit recently. Perhaps this whole thing was started by Floyd Mayweather calling out athletes from their sport. Now, Nick Diaz is the latest – calling out Canelo Alvarez no less to a boxing match.
Diaz for anyone who’s followed the UFC for the last decade or more will tell you is perhaps one of the very toughest human beings walking the face of the Earth today.
A man with an ability to overcome pain and punishment perhaps only equalled by his freakish cardio machine propelling him.
He sparred former pound for pound rated boxer Andre Ward quite a lot during Ward’s career too.
Ward always commented on how he and his brother Nate’s boxing skills would surprise many pro boxers.
Speaking to TMZ, Nick Diaz has directed the following at Canelo Alvarez:
“The guys’s moving up to 168lbs against some no name (Rocky Fielding). At the end of the day he’d make more money fighting me. Canelo moving up to my weight class would have no chance. Come on man, you’re just basically one of those little guys before I fight (that I spar). So had Andre Ward )a lot of boxing experience).”
He added:
“What I’m saying is sorry ain’t nothing personal, no offence (to Canelo).”
Canelo next faces Rocky Fielding from the UK up at 168lbs on December 15th at Madison Square Garden.
