Canelo Alvarez announced his next fight against Rocky Fielding on December 15th at Madison Square Garden but also has his eyes on some big fights down the line including Floyd Mayweather.
Canelo shocked the world with his huge $365 million, eleven fight deal with streaming platform DAZN this week.
Traditionally Mayweather only fights on pay per view and with Canelo also now up at super-middleweight, it’s hard to see how a rematch could happen down the line.
Mayweather has insisted he is boxing UFC champion Khabib next up but people are still very sceptical about the whole thing – including Canelo.
Speaking to TMZ Canelo said:
“My reaction is that he wants to continue hurting boxing by making fights that don’t make sense. By making fights that hurt boxing and not giving boxing the credibility it deserves which is such a nice sport and that is giving him so much. So if he wants to return I ask him to look my way, to give a great fight for the fans.”
He added:
“Lets do the second fight. It’s very important. We have something pending here so let’s do the second fight.”
Mayweather has also said he will rematch Manny Pacquiao next year but as of yet nothing tangible has been signed or announced.
