Canelo Alvarez, the biggest name in the sport of boxing and the recent winner of the Gennady Golovkin super fight, has some big news.
Alvarez takes on Rocky Fielding of the UK next up as he steps up to the super-middleweight division for the first time on December 15th at Madison Square Garden.
With HBO recently announcing their departure from boxing and Canelo needing a new broadcaster, many thought that Eddie Hearn and DAZN would step in to swoop.
It appears they have.
According to journalist Keith Idec on Twitter (hat tip) a multi-fight agreement between DAZN and Canelo has been reached:
Breaking: I’ve been informed DAZN has landed the rights to stream the Canelo Alvarez-Rocky Fielding fight on December 15 from Madison Square Garden. An announcement will be made at a press conference tomorrow at MSG. My story will be up soon on @boxingscene. #CaneloFielding

Massive news and some positive momentum for the boxing section of streaming service DAZN.
Canelo is known to drive the biggest numbers out of any boxer based in the US and this will help bolster their new service to a new level in terms of interest in the US market.
Also, for American fight fans, for the first time in a long time, they won’t have to pay to watch Canelo on pay per view at a very high cost.
Instead, they can simply sign up for 9.99 per month to watch the fight as well as a whole month’s other content on a rolling contract basis – free to leave at any time.
