It has been a week now since Floyd Mayweather announced that he plans on coming back to the sport of boxing to take on Manny Pacquiao in a second fight but a lot has changed in that time already.
First off, Pacquiao said either way he would be finalizing a deal for his next fight this December either way with or without Mayweather.
That didn’t materialize. We’re still waiting to hear who he’s going to fight next.
Amir Khan, a leading candidate before Mayweather made the announcement, said this week he’s waiting to see what is going on with the rematch between the two before opting to fight Kell Brook instead.
Everyone’s playing the waiting game essentially.
Mayweather then came out during the week saying he wants a tune up fight first before getting back in the ring with Pacquiao.
Is he really serious at all about that, even? One has to wonder.
Was he just gauging public reaction and appetite for a possible Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 event? I tend to lean towards this theory as he’s had form for this in the past.
Remember when he asked the public if he should fight Amir Khan or Marcos Maidana in a poll?
Mayweather loves to test the waters – everything he does is calculated.
