David Haye has lashed out at the Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez rematch the day before it is set to take place in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The controversy surrounding the fight has been well publicized after Canelo failed a drugs test earlier this year pushing back the original rematch date.
The Mexican boxing star was given a surprisingly short six month ban from the Nevada State Athletic Commission which allows the rematch to take place this weekend.
As fans, we were happy because we get to see the fight again.
A bout that was a thriller first time round.
But former heavyweight champion David Haye doesn’t believe the fight should be happening at all because in his view, Canelo should have been banned for much longer.
Speaking to Star Sport UK, Haye said:
“I’m pretty sure that if Canelo was British, he would have had a minimum of a two-year ban. The fact that he’s not with the British Boxing Board of Control and not governed by UKAD means the decisions are different.”
Haye went on to mention that the main reason the fight is happening is because of money.
Canelo has contended that the failed drugs test was due to contaminated meat he ingested by accident in his home country of Mexico.
Golovkin and his team have contended that they simply don’t believe him.
The truth will be revealed tomorrow night where it can be done so best, ultimately.
In the ring.
