Anthony Joshua has been very honest and open in his interviews over the last six months or so which is refreshing to see from a top-level fighter.
The pressure he must be under must be enormous. So much so that he’s admitted to feeling the pressure this week.
In keeping with that candid language, he’s also admitted that he was too cautious against Joseph Parker in his last fight.
Speaking on a US media call he said:
“I thought if I win this fight then I’ll definitely secure the fight with Wilder, so I boxed carefully. But now it’s like I’m going to fight Wilder regardless so I just got to focus on Povetkin and go in there and have fun. Don’t be cautious. It was ruining my style, my aggressive style and I just need to go in there and take out Povetkin like I would any opponent.”
He makes a great point in that all the success he’s had up to now has been through going out there and putting on entertaining fights.
Yes, still having tactics but ultimately, putting on show his huge power and heart in wins against the likes of Klitschko and Carlos Takam have captured the public’s imagination to this point and got him to where he is today.
The above bodes well for September 22nd.
Expect to see an exciting performance from Joshua and something a lot different from the Parker fight last time out.
