Shawn Porter became the new WBC welterweight world champion tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Many people have written Shawn Porter off during his career only to be proven wrong.
Tonight was another one of those cases where his motivation and hustle won a unanimous decision over Danny Garcia who looked a bit flat.
The boxing world could not be happier for Porter to win the title. One of the nicest guys in boxing and fighter who has now become a two-time champion.
A genuine case of hard work paying off.
Here’s some of the reaction so far:
SCORECARDS: 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 for Shawn Porter.
Well deserved. They got it right. What a fun fight. Porter is a two-time champion.

Errol Spence Jr in the ring with Shawn Porter. This is going to be a great fight next year.

Judges score it 116-112, 115-113 x2 for Shawn Porter, who collects Keith Thurman’s WBC 147lb title belt. I’m not so sure I agree with those scores, but I can understand the reasoning (politics?) behind them. #boxing #MonteroOnBoxing #GarciaPorter #GarciavsPorter #PBConShowtime

Honestly I saw this fight going either way. Shawn more active in his rounds and Danny landing bigger shots in his. Good fight!!

Thought the right man won although shocked they actually gave it to him lol

I had Porter winning 7 rounds to 5… Garcia let too many late rounds go

Draw or porter by a round

I thought it was a draw

Given the close nature of the fight in the eyes of some, perhaps a rematch could be on the cards for next year.
