The term ‘cherry picker’ might be remembered around the time Danny Garcia fought Keith Thurman last year.

Before their fight, it was Thurman’s go to phrase about Garcia – in that he believed he had hand-picked opponents his entire career.

Thurman won that fight in the end but has been inactive all this year.

Now Garcia fights Shawn Porter for the vacant WBC welterweight title on Saturday night and the ‘cherry picker’ term has come up again for Garcia.

This time from Porter.

Speaking at the final press conference, Garcia said to Porter:

“Well, if I’m a cherry picker doesn’t that make you a cherry?”

To which Porter replied:

“He ain’t getting in the ring with a cherry on Saturday. He getting in the ring with a pit bull. He knows that.”

The fight promises to be an exciting clash of styles and will see all the major champions from the Showtime and Premier Boxing Champions stable in attendance ringside.

The bout itself will be shown live on Showtime in the US and has also been picked up by BoxNation in the UK.
