Eddie Hearn Responds To Schaefer Criticism Of Him, DAZN and Joshua

Promoter Eddie Hearn came in for some heavy criticism from rival promoter Richard Schaefer this week who claimed he doesn’t believe Anthony Joshua will move to needle in the US boxing market.

Joshua fights live on DAZN on September 22nd in the first fight for the platform when he takes on Alexander Povetkin from Russia.

Swiss boxing promoter Richard Schaefer in an interview this week said Hearn has not been impressive with his signings thus far.

He also added that Joe Joyce will pull more numbers on Fox than Joshua will on DAZN in the US and that he doesn’t expect Joshua to be a big draw (move the needle) in America.

Hearn responded to those comments in this interview with Fight Hype YouTube (hat tip) and touched on a number of points:

The war of words rages on between not just the boxers, but the promoters.

The sport of boxing is really coming into a golden age now in terms of fan base and big fights being made.

Networks and platforms everywhere seem to be showing boxing regularly, week in, week out.

Long may it continue.
