‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley knows a thing or two about big fights. A potential future Hall of Famer, Mosley has shared the ring with legends of the sport and became a multi-weight champion in his own right. He believes he knows what’s going to happen on September 15th between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez in their rematch.
Mosley is now helping fighters like Shawn Porter with tips and advice for his up coming WBC welterweight title fight with Danny Garcia next week and for the most part, is not active in his own career anymore.
An injury to his arm appears to have ended Mosley’s career in the pro boxing ring but his knowledge that can be passed on from a sparring and punditry perspective is absolute gold dust.
So when Shane Mosley makes a call on a big fight coming up, people tend to listen.
Speaking to the LA Times, Mosley said:
“He might have some more age (Golovkin over Canelo) but it’s a hard fight for Canelo because Triple-G is too big and strong. I believe he’ll walk Canelo down and have his way with him if he turns it on earlier.”
Golovkin tried to walk Canelo down in the first fight and the bout still went the distance, so it’s a bit of a big call to think ‘GGG’ can simply walk him down second time round.
Also having his way with Canelo seems like a bit of a stretch, to be fair.
Then again, who’s anyone to question Shane Mosley.
A Golovkin stoppage win looks to be worth a cheeky small wager after hearing the above from the legendary boxer.
