Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has come out swinging in the media today after mass disappointment following news that the Joshua vs Wilder fight will not happen next up.
Joshua is instead in the final phase of negotiations to fight Alexander Povetkin next up after his and Wilder’s team could not reach a timely agreement.
Hearn came in for a lot of criticism following the negotiations collapsing but has now put together a new proposal for Wilder as well as another $5 million fight in the meantime.
Speaking to Kugan Cassius of IFL TV, Hearn said:
“Last night I sent Deontay Wilder an email: ‘I’m very, very disappointed in your team that they didn’t come back to me with comments on our contract but great news, the offer is still there of $15 million at the next available date at Wembley stadium which is April 13th (2018) and even better news, I’ll give you five million dollars just for a little tick over (fight) in October or September (2017) against an opponent of your choice in New York.”
Essentially the same offer for Wilder is still open for the Joshua fight, but all the way in April of next year.
The waiting around more than anything is what has angered fans in the whole process more than anything.
