Trainer to Lucas Matthysse Joel Diaz has gone on the record on what he thinks will happen in his fighters bout next month against Manny Pacquiao and who he rates as the best welterweight in boxing today.
The welterweight division is on fire at the moment and the winner of Pacquiao vs Matthysse next month on July 15th will likely provide one last big fight opportunity to the winner.
Speaking to ES News, Joel Diaz said of the fight next month:
Prediction? Well you know what I’m just going to tell you the truth. To me it’s a coin toss in that fight. These two fighters are towards the end of their career. Its a good matchup because Manny Pacquiao is already (nearly) 40 years old, Lucas Matthysse is 36 years old. They had a long career. They had some great fights. I just think it’s a great fight. I think that night whoever lands the best shot is going to be the winner. That’s what you gotta be prepared for – for the best and the worst.”
On who he rates as the best at 147lbs Diaz added:
“Crawford. Terence Crawford is an all around fighter. To me he is the full package.”
Speculation earlier this month existed suggesting the Pacquiao vs Matthysse fight was in danger of not happening next month but at this time there is no evidence suggesting that the fight will not take place.
