Englishman James DeGale went to Las Vegas this weekend to get back his IBF super-middleweight title but was made to work in what turned out to be a bloody, ugly fight.
DeGale won a unanimous points decision in the end to defeat Caleb Truax at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas but it was a messy fight that had plenty of fouls and clinching in it.
Truax had beaten DeGale about four months prior via majority decision in London.
After the fight Truax called for a third fight, whether or not there would be demand for it however after such an ugly rematch remains to be seen.
Both men suffered cuts in the bout this weekend in a back and forth battle but DeGale ran out deserving winner on the whole – in terms of the fighter who landed the more effective work.
This now positions the Englishman back in the mix at 168lbs where he will be keeping a keen eye on the World Boxing Super Series final later this summer contested by fellow countrymen George Groves and Callum Smith.
The winner fighting DeGale would seem like a logical move.
