Canelo Alvarez currently finds himself at the centre of an investigation by the Nevada State Athletic Commission ahead of his scheduled rematch with Gennady Golovkin May 5th at the T-Mobile Arena.
Everything is up in the air at the moment in terms of if the fight will actually take place on the night above in Las Vegas.
Most suspect it will though.
Given the indications coming out of both promoter’s camps so early on into the sensational news that has broken this week.
It’s news that has taken not just the boxing world by storm – but the wider sports world by surprise, too.
Canelo’s promoters Golden Boy Promotions cited his positive test for a banned substance as consistent with other Mexican athletes who have ingested contaminated meat in recent years.
This meat reason, as you can imagine, has brought about all sorts of memes, photo edits and general slants from people in boxing – and further a field.
Here’s some of the most popular reaction to the news on Twitter so far:
I want that contaminated meat that Canelo Alvarez is on. pic.twitter.com/LyhfbcE8V2

Kellerman and Smith on First Take were unbearable re Canelo. “It’s fine”, “it’s not a big deal”, “let the fight go on”. Imagine if it was GGG that tested positive, he would get absolutely slaughtered from all angles #CaneloGGG2

It makes me feel sick wen I think of some of the fighters canelo has wiped out cold with one punch. Khan for instance, who he would have had a stone an half weight advantage due to making weight illegally thru steroids. These guys fold in half, with family, wife an kids at home
