The Deontay Wilder ‘Bomb Squad’ chant was on full show at yesterday’s weigh-ins ahead of tonight’s WBC heavyweight title fight in New York.
Wilder came in at the third lightest of his career yesterday while Ortiz came in perhaps a little on the softer side.
A lot has been made at Wilder being so light at 214lbs for a 6’7 heavyweight – but pay little attention to it.
If anything, it shows he’s in tip-top shape and will be built for speed in a bid to take his perceived better boxer foe Luis Ortiz out inside the distance.
Aside from knockout talk and the serious business at hand, there was a lighter moment that happened yesterday where Wilder made one of the Corona girl’s nearly jump out of her skin.
Captured by the guys at IFL YouTube (hat tip):
Quality stuff, Deontay.
Obviously he’ll be aiming to do something similar to Ortiz tonight. Not with his verbal jousts – but with his fists.
Ortiz continues to be a live dog in the fight according to sports books at the moment.
Some still appear to be hesitant over Wilder’s skills against Ortiz, particularly if the Cuban challenger brings his A-Game tonight.
All shall be revealed soon enough though, as they say.
