Today saw news that former world champion Kell Brook’s arch nemesis Amir Khan was signed by Brook’s own promoter Eddie Hearn that sees both fighters now under the same promoter and TV network.
Obviously it’s the fight straight away that people are pointing to happening as part of the deal, but it doesn’t look like it will happen until the earliest at the end of the year.
But with both men now with the same promoter – it has every chance.
Speaking on TV today on Sky Sports News, Hearn said of how he handled Kell Brook when giving him the news:
“No, he’s happy. I’ve told Kell. We’ve been talking to Amir for months now. I told Kell a while back that we’re talking. I phoned him and messaged him last night to let him no before anyone else. He’s excited. He doesn’t like Amir Khan. That’s pretty obvious. But also it doesn’t take a genius to work out that this brings Brook-Khan closer. This brings all the mega fights for Amir Khan much closer. This deal isn’t a deal to do the Khan-Brook fight but lets be real here, this is a fight we’ve wanted this fight for ages, this is a fight the British public have wanted for ages and it’s top of the agenda to discuss for the back end of 2018.”
Brook has signalled his intent to box at 154lbs next up – while Khan will fight at 147lbs for his immediate next bout.
