Devon Alexander vs Victor Ortiz has been pencilled in as an early welterweight scrap to look forward to on the boxing calendar.
Alexander returned to the ring for the first time in years last year after an extended break from the sport for personal reasons.
He returned to winning ways and now has a meaningful fight against a known name in Victor Ortiz to look forward to.
It is understood that terms have been agreed with a formal announcement expected shortly. The fight is set to take place in Al Paso, Texas on Fox on February 17th.
Both men are former champions at 147lbs and have been involved in some big fights over the years, namely Ortiz when he was stopped inside the distance by Floyd Mayweather after headbutting the American, quiet famously at the time.
He’s been pretty inactive in recent years since that but will come into this fight off the back of a KO win last year to Saul Corral in a relatively low-key affair.
His last fight before that was a KO loss to Andre Berto back in 2016.
Alexander’s win last year came to Walter Castillo by unanimous decision in his first fight in over two years, so both will come into the contest off wins which should make for a relatively interesting bout.
