Amir Khan: Looking At The 147lbs Division – It’s There For The Taking

UK boxer Amir Khan is defiant ahead of the start of the new year and has his eyes well and truly set on the big names in the welterweight division.

Boxing-wise 2017 was a year to forget for Khan, as he didn’t fight.

Outside the ring-wise however he rekindled his relationship with his wife, won over new fans on a reality TV show and all in all, finished the year in a positive place.

But it’s back to business for Khan now as he sets his sights on a comeback early this year. Speaking to FightHype.com, Khan said:

“Looking at the 147lbs division it’s there for the taking. You’ve got Keith Thurman which I’d love to have, you’ve got Spence, you’ve got Garcia rematch, you’ve got the Peterson rematch. Some big names there, so I know it’s there for the taking.”

He added:

“At 147lbs I don’t think anyone can push me the way that Canelo did because Canelo is a big guy, that’s why I was saying that the 147lbs division is definitely what suits me and is where I’m going to clean up the division and I am going to become world champion again. Mark my words.”

Also add to that mix Terence Crawford, who recently confirmed he is now a welterweight – and you have quite the amount of pugilistic talent now in the welterweight division.
