Some very well known, experienced combat sports journalists blast Rigondeaux for what they deemed him to have quit in the fight.
Critics of the Cuban’s performance last night have been frequent and consistent for the most part.
The fight ultimately didn’t live up to what many expected of it.
In that Lomachenko handled Rigondeaux with ease as the bout transpired, but some were really left with a bad taste in their mouth following what they saw from Rigondeaux.
Some of the fight game’s most experienced journalists had no sympathy for Rigondeaux, despite citing a hand injury as the reason for him quitting on his stool:
Rigo quit meekly in the biggest fight of his career because his hand hurt. Miguel Cotto last week fought about five rounds with a badly torn left biceps and finished the fight trying to win. That’s a real fighter. #boxing #LomaRigo

Rigondeaux has quit. Wow. That’s gutless. You think you’re the best in the world, you keep fighting and you try to make something happen. Quitting … Wow.

The biggest shame about tonight is, nobody will be talking about how dominant Lomachenko was. I hope I never see Rigo box again.

Pretty magnanimous in their views there, on both sides of the pond.
