James DeGale reacts to his shock defeat to American Caleb Truax to surrender his world title belt in his home town of London.
The boxing world is still in disbelief tonight after James DeGale who was expected to defend his world title in relatively easy fashion, fell victim to what many are now referring to as the upset of the year in the sport.
American Caleb Truax took the fight to DeGale throughout in a close bout but one he deserved to edge it in most people’s eyes.
After the bout a clearly shocked and emotional DeGale mentioned that he thought he might have come back to the sport too early after an 11 month break and that he needed to “sort things out in camp” and speak to Al (Haymon), while also watch the fight back.
Here is his immediate reaction to the fight tonight:
"I can't believe it, I'm so upset."
"I probably rushed back, I want the rematch."

DeGale was on course to fight possibly the winner of the World Boxing Super Series in 2018 but this plan has now well and truly been set back.
At least for the time being.
There doesn’t appear to be an immediate rematch clause either. So likely he will have to work his way back into a title shot position.
Following the bout his promoter Frank Warren also gave his immediate post-fight reaction:
"I said to him before the 12th, you have to knock him out!"
