Manuel Charr beats Alexander Ustinov to win a version of the heavyweight title tonight in a fight that went under the radar.
Many will be scratching their heads at how tonight was for a heavyweight title, but it was, for the WBA ‘regular’ strap.
In recent times the WBA have said they are making moves to have only one belt per division – so this could be one of the last times perhaps this is seen.
It is widely considered that the WBA ‘Super’ title is the main belt the organization has in each weight class.
Confusion aside, German Manuel Charr turned back the clocks a little tonight with a unanimous points win on native soil in Germany over Ustinov.
Turning back the clocks in the sense that at the age of 40 and after years of been on the fringes, he finally got his hands on a heavyweight title belt, of sorts.
Here’s how some of the boxing world has been reacting to Charr’s win tonight:
Manuel Charr the best heavyweight in the world. Who would’ve thought it #AndTheNew

So according to the @WBABoxing Manuel Charr is now the “world” heavyweight champion! I am lost for words with this once world leading organisation. What has @GilberticoWBA done to the WBA and to its history? Turned it into a laughing stock. it’s actually a disgrace @WBCBoxing https://t.co/1orSyD7aBi
