Shawn Porter calls out Keith Thurman following his win on points over Adrien Granados on Deontay Wilder undercard.
Porter won by unanimous decision to improve his record to 28-2-1-17KO and put himself in pole position for some big fights in the welterweight division in 2018.
In the US alone it’s a weight class that has a shark pool of talent.
Between the likes of Porter, Errol Spence Jr, Terence Crawford (who moved up recently), Danny Garica and Keith Thurman there is some big fights to be made.
It’s the Thurman fight that Porter and his team want in particular. Speaking after his win last night he made this point very clear:
“We going to do our best to make that fight happened. I understand he (Thurman) is coming off a long lay off. So I understand he wants to be fully prepared for someone like ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter. We’ll do our best to respect that and do our best to give him the time that he needs – but with the understanding that we want to fight you and make that fight happen.”
His father and trainer Kenny Porter added
“I understand his thought process not wanting to come back and fight a top fighter at this point. Let I’m do that and then when the dust clears we are going to be waiting.”
He concluded:
“We’ll be waiting when he’s done. We won’t fight anyone until he is ready to fight.”
