Paul Hyland Jr Sees Stephen Ormond As A Stepping Stone

Paul Hyland Jr fights Stephen Ormond this weekend as part of the Ryan Burnett world title show taking place in Belfast.

Paul Hyland Jr of Belfast will have a lot of hometown support but Ormond will have plenty of Dublin fans travelling up with him to Belfast as well, which should create quiet the atmosphere at this SSE Arena.

The bout is one that Hyland thinks is the perfect fight for him to show that he is ready for a British title shot at lightweight in 2018:

“Next year I’d love to fight for the British title. I’m in the top ten in Britain now and I know Matchroom have just signed Lewis who had a good win over Barrett. I feel like he wouldn’t be able to push me back as easy so it would make for a cracking fight.”

He added:

“He’s definitely my toughest opponent to date. I respect what he’s done and am expecting a tough fight but it’s my time to take over now.”

Hyland continued:

“He’s had an up and down couple of years but there’s no doubt he’s boxed at a higher level than I have at present. It’s a good measuring stick for me to get in and see where I am at.”

27 year old Hyland is unbeaten coming into the fight (16-0-6KO) but will have to be weary of a more experienced, and highly dangerous opponent in Stephen Ormond who will be eyeing this fight as a stepping stone himself to get back to world title level.
