Billy Joe Saunders and David Lemieux will fight for the WBO middleweight title with full details awaiting to be announced.
Billy Joe Saunders and David Lemieux may have seemed an unlikely pairing a few months back, as WBO champion Saunders was expecting to face the winner of last month’s mega fight between Golovkin and Canelo.
With that fight been scored a draw, a rematch between the two will now happen next up instead – leaving Saunders to play the waiting game once again.
Some back and forth verbals on Twitter between Saunders and Canadian David Lemieux have gone by in recent weeks in anticipation that the two could potentially be fighting.
Well, that now looks to be the case. The President of the WBO (World Boxing Organisation) confirmed on Twitter that:
I’m pleased that Saunders vs Lemieux have reached an agreement, there will be no purse bid this Friday.@frankwarren_tv @GoldenBoyBoxing

Lemieux is no stranger to world title fights having captured the IBF 160lbs crown in the past, only to surrender it to division number one Gennady Golovkin a couple of years back.
Since that loss in October of 2015 he’s put together four wins on the trot now however and will be feeling confident coming into this fight with Saunders.
An official announcement as to when and where the bout will take place is to be confirmed.
