An apparent potential Billy Joe Saunders Amir Khan fight came out of nowhere recently online. The WBO middleweight champion responds.
A Billy Joe Saunders Amir Khan fight is something that no one perhaps thought about in the past. Two well known names in UK and world boxing but nonetheless, not two that have ever been linked together.
Amir Khan, usually a welterweight, last boxed at the middleweight limit in his career when he fought Canelo Alvarez back in 2016 when he was knocked out cold.
Billy Joe Saunders, the reigning WBO middleweight world champion, defended his title recently with a unanimous points win over American Willie Monroe Jr.
Following the bout, it was thought that Saunders would then get a shot at the winner of Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez last month.
However, the outcome of that fight as a draw threw a spanner into the proverbial works for that particular plan, as now an immediate rematch between the two next May is what is likely for both of them next.
This now leaves Saunders looking for a new opponent in the meantime and a fighter with the global following and star name of Khan is something he’s said this morning that he would not say no to:
I think @amirkingkhan is a good fighter and have total respect for him love the chance to have a punch up???
