WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders reacts to his young son hitting his opponent Willie Monroe at their weigh-ins.
The boxing world saw perhaps a first in world title fight weigh-ins today when Billy Joe Saunders’ young son let fly with a right hook into the balls of American Willie Monroe Jr, followed by an attempted kick.
Those in attendance were laughing but Monroe’s team could be clearly heard shouting straight after:
“That’s bull****!”
Indeed, many fight fans online have taken issue with the behavior in a story which seems to have taken on a life of it’s own so far.
The father of the boy and world champion Billy Joe Saunders has now given his opinion on what took place:
My sons been taught when A stranger puts their hands on them they don’t know punch and run away self defence @boxnationtv @frankwarren_tv??

Monroe could be seen putting his hand on top of Saunders’ son’s head in a seemingly friendly manner prior to the boy letting fly here.
Some of the reactions so far from fight fans today have been mixed to say the least:
Billy Joe Saunders (who I want to win) needs to teach his little brat of a son some ****** manners. Disgraceful behaviour. https://t.co/IhMeO0DTaz

Sounds like Billy Joe Saunders is setting his kid up to be a highly paranoid, anxious, violent man. That or a planned stunt. Very trashy. https://t.co/Eex7dR7uG2

Nothing will make me happier than watching Billy Joe Saunders be sparked cold in front of his son by someone. Anyone. I don’t care.
