Mexican boxing star Canelo reacts with a rare bit of hostility in an otherwise respectful build-up to one of the best fights in years.

Most of the lead up to this weekend’s mouth watering middleweight title fight has been classy and pretty standard across the board.

However, during one open media scrum with reporters – Canelo Alvarez took exception to one remark mentioned by a Mexican reporter who brought up something Golovkin said that annoyed him.

The reporter’s remark (translated into English) made reference to Golovkin allegedly saying according to the reporter that Golovkin said he stopped knocking out opponents in the run-up to the Canelo fight this year just to lure Canelo into actually fighting him.

The suggestion being that if he had kept knocking opponents out that Canelo and his handlers would not have taken the fight out of fear.

Canelo rubbished the thought:

“That’s a very dumb a** response!”

His promoter Oscar De La Hoya echoed his sentiments:

“I’m not going to even respond.”

Both men met at the final press conference today where they kept things short and sweet, clearly focused on fight night this weekend.

Ahead of this weekend’s mega bout in Las Vegas we stumbled across this new fan-made promo video called ‘The World Will Stop’ – well worth a watch:
