A new WBC Championship belt created specially for the biggest world middleweight title showdown in many years in boxing.
The new WBC Championship belt move from the World Boxing Council follows a similar move recently for the Mayweather vs McGregor event where they came up with a special belt for the fight due to its unique nature.
While some criticise the amount of belts in circulation, if the Mayweather vs McGregor got a new belt created for it, the Golovkin vs Canelo fight more than deserves one surely.
Given the fact its actually a competitive top level bout in boxing. The WBC explained the move on Instagram by saying:
“Gennady Golovkin will be defending his WBC Green Belt on September 16, and to commemorate this date, which is a Mexican holiday that has become one of the most important ones for boxing, the WBC created this piece of art for the winner.
The championship belt remains the green belt, this is an award for the winner of this date.
