The fight tonight that is for a legitimate world boxing title no less that many seem to be forgetting about because of Mayweather-McGregor.
The fight that many hardcore boxing fans will be watching tonight but one that the rest of the world perhaps is not aware of will be between Miguel Cotto and Yoshihiro Kamegai.
Ironically, it takes place at the same weight limit as tonight’s Mayweather vs McGregor fight and it is for the vacant WBO 154lbs (super-welterweight) world title at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California.
Coming into the fight, Miguel Cotto has made clear that 2017 will be his last year in boxing but it is not known for definite if this will be his last fight – as if he wins he might be able to squeeze one more fight in before the year is out.
If it does prove to be his last fight, what an amazing career it’s been.
Fights with many of his era’s greats against the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosely – to name just a few.
One of Puerto Rico’s most loved warriors comes into tonight having not boxed in just under two years (since losing to Canelo Alvarez back in 2015) so will likely be chomping at the bit.
Both fighters made the weight ahead of tonight’s fight which will be shown live on HBO.
