Sergey Kovalev is in Las Vegas ahead of his rematch with Andre Ward and his given his initial thoughts on fight week.

Kovalev must be chomping at the bit for his second meeting with American boxing maestro Andre Ward who beat him in a close, but controversial first fight in 2016.

Ultimately after 12 rounds and after Ward tasted the canvas, the American won a unanimous decision against Russian Kovalev who suffered defeat for the first time in his professional career.

Word in boxing circles is that Ward is in phenomenal shape and has been firing on all cylinders in the gym in the lead up to Saturday’s rematch.

He’ll need to be though, as he’s going to be coming in there with a man known for hitting as hard as any light-heavyweight in the world who will be motivated out of skin to beat him.

I suspect the rematch could be an even better fight then the first one too, with both men having a lot to prove for different reasons.

For Ward, that the first fight was no fluke and for Kovalev, a chance to put right what many perceived as an unfair decision.

The fight will take place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas this weekend and ahead of Saturday night Kovalev has made his grand arrival and spoken to the media about Ward:
