Mikey Garcia vs Jorge Linares – A Fight For The Ages

Talks of a Mikey Garcia vs Jorge Linares fight have quickly gotten the boxing world excited following this past weekend’s fight with Anthony Crolla.

Mikey Garcia vs Jorge Linares in many ways represents what boxing is about it’s most inner core. At it’s very best.

Two world class champions at the peak of their powers with skill, speed and heart on tap. No hype. No bluff. No guff.

Just one hell of a fight. If it happens that is.

Linares retained his WBA (Super) and Ring Magazine lightweight straps this past weekend with a breathtaking boxing display over courageous former champion Anthony Crolla.

It was the third big win on UK soil in recent years for Linares, who had previously dispatched of Crolla once before and also London’s Kevin Mitchell.

As he flies back to the US this weekend and returns to his training camp, the Venezuelan while taking in his considerable achievement will more than likely have one eye on Mikey Garcia already.

29 year old Garcia has torn through the lightweight division like a machete sword through a soft cushion. Blitzing everything in site to amass a record of 36-0 (30KO) thus far.

Mikey Garcia vs Jorge Linares is everything you want in a world title fight

It could be argued that 31 year old Linares has faced the slightly tougher competition to date however. Certainly he’s travelled overseas a lot more to compile his in-ring success.

But what a clash of styles. Speed, speed and more speed. But it’s the smarts and timing behind this velocity that would make for such a terrific clash.

Garcia has already called for a summer unification with Linares too. It would bring together both Linares’ straps and Garcia’s WBC 135lbs title.

Garcia training out of California and Linares out of Vegas won’t have that far to travel, in terms of their respective teams needing to negotiate this one.

It has all the makings of a big Vegas or California fight. Is Mikey Garcia vs Jorge Linares as good as it gets in boxing?

If it isn’t, I honestly don’t know what is.
