This past weekend a secret Liam Smith fight not shown on TV, online or made aware to the public beforehand took place in Barcelona, Spain.
The Secret Liam Smith Fight
While reasons over why this Liam Smith fight might have took place in such secrecy are unclear, the result of the match was that Smith came away with the win and injury free ahead of his publicised fight next month in Manchester.
Smith won a points decision over Romanian Marian Cazacu (who had lost 37 times before the fight) and by all accounts Smith took it easy on him – getting some rounds in.
This Liam Smith fight could simply have been a keep busy bout in many ways, just to keep ticking over ahead of next month when he faces Liam Williams at the Manchester Arena on the 8th of April.
Here is a clip from the secret Liam Smith fight this past weekend from Dewi Powell on Twitter:
Smith’s last fight in the ring before that was also his first loss of his pro career against Canelo Alvarez in 2016 in Texas, USA.
So perhaps last weekend’s fight above might also have been to build confidence again since the loss to Canelo. Who knows.
Only a few weeks to go until a legitimate test for Smith of course, but we tend to agree with the above. The above match last weekend was perhaps a risky move so close to a fight.
The win did however improve Smith’s record to 24-1-1 (13KO).
