Roman Gonzalez Loses For The First Time In His 47 Fight Career

Pound for pound rated Roman Gonzalez loses a professional boxing match for the first time in his career on St.Patrick’s Day weekend in New York.

Gonzalez dropped a close, controversial decision. But what an amazing fight it was to watch for fans in attendance and those watching around the world though.

Thailand’s Wisaksil Wangek stunned him and the boxing world to win by upset on a majority decision at Madison Square Garden.

Wangek might have been on the lower scale of the pay purses before the fight but no doubt he can expect some much bigger pay days in his next few fights now.

He dropped the pound for pound rated Gonzalez in the very first round, busted his face up with what looked to be an unintentional butt in the third and ultimately won a decision over the 12 rounds to claim the WBC super-flyweight world title.

It was a ferocious battle in truth. Wangek saw blood and a cut on Gonzalez’ face, he made it a point to target the cut from there on out.

However despite the cut and early body shot knockdown in the first round, Gonzalez looked like he had control of the fight overall.

It surprised quite a few when the Thai got the decision. None more so than Gonzalez – who demanded an immediate rematch after the fight.

Here’s a taste of some of the relentless action in this enthralling lower weight fight as shot by one fan online:
