Tonight’s Terry Flanagan result, full fight report and post-fight analysis on his world title defense in Cardiff against Orlando Cruz.
The Terry Flanagan result tonight went the way of the Manchester lightweight world champion – who moves on to possibly very big things in 2017.
Coming into the fight Orlando Cruz was looking to become the first ever openly gay boxer to win a world title. But Flanagan was not in the mood to give up his title.

The first couple of rounds proved to be a cagey start from both men. Flanagan used his footwork well early on to stay out of trouble, sticking to a sensible gameplan and in general, he boxed well overall.
Gradually as the bout progressed Flanagan upped the ante from long range, getting Cruz onto the ropes at times but still utilizing movement and good footwork to box on the outside mostly.
Flanagan was finding his target by the middle of the fight and you could tell he was frustrating the challenger, who was complaining to the referee on different occasions.
Flanagan scored a knockdown in round 8 with Cruz claiming it should not have counted because of a foul. It did count though.
Then Flanagan followed it up with a second knockdown which brought an end to the fight as the referee stepped in to wave it off.
A dominant display from the champion tonight. Some big fights at 135lbs could be in store for him next year.

Despite continuing to be underestimated by many in the boxing world – no one can not say that Terry Flanagan is not a top class world champion after tonight.
The Mancunian marches on in his impressive career to date.
