Matthew Macklin Retires from Boxing, Remembering ‘Mack The Knife’

Matthew Macklin has retired today from the sport of boxing.

The official news came this morning that Ireland’s Matthew Macklin will no longer continue his active boxing career in the ring.

Macklin (35-6-22KO) will perhaps be best remembered for his fight with Manchester’s Jamie Moore back in September of 2009 and although Matthew lost the bout, the display in the ring between both men that night will live long into the memories of boxing fans:

Matthew Macklin, born in Birmingham in the UK but hugely proud of his Irish heritage being the son of two Irish parents, became the Irish, British and European champion in his time as a professional boxer – and challenged for the world title on three occasions.

One of those occasions in particular against Felix Sturm in Germany in 2012 was a razor thin split decision loss, with many in the fight game feeling Macklin won the fight on the night, and should have become World Champion.
