If you are a fan of the best fighting the best, good news is on the way soon in boxing’s light-heavyweight division (Note this article has been updated at the end of it - check out the highlights of the fight below!)
Weight class kingpin Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev and recent talented division addition Andre Ward – are set to meet late this year, at long last.
So it would seem anyway.
Talks of the match up date back a while now, mentioning that the pair would collide in the fall of 2016 should they both keep winning.
But ESPN’s Dan Rafael has revealed on Twitter that Russian Kovalev’s promoter Kathy Duva confirmed to him that a contract has definitely been signed:
Kathy Duva says again the Kovalev-Ward contracts are signed for fall. She says it’s best fight that can be made in #boxing.

It’s hard to disagree with Kathy Duva’s statement above, in fairness.
From a credibility point of view and for out and out pound for pound talent facing each other, it has to be up there as one of the very best fights that can be made at the moment.
***Article Update*** - In the end the fight proved to be a controversial one, with Ward winning a highly contentious decision after a hard fought battle where he needed to get up off the canvas.
