Canelo Khan 24/7 Episode 1 Review

Canelo Alvarez vs Amir Khan is fast approaching and ahead of their big fight in Vegas HBO have released their first installment of the critically acclaimed 24/7 series.

After watching it this morning, I thought it was a good short documentary to be fair, giving a decent insight into just how gigantic a superstar Canelo has become at a young age in his native Mexico – along with delving into the mind and motivation of Amir Khan’s ballsy move to challenge Canelo for his WBC middleweight title.

A lot has been made about the weight of 155lbs going into this fight, as a middleweight title is traditionally fought at 160lbs.

But for me, the big question is how long Khan will essentially be able to stay out of the way of Canelo’s power shots?

He’s certainly put on some bulk ahead of the bout, but will his speed remain the same? Time will tell.

Interestingly, in the build-up to this fight Khan has gone on record saying he is categorically looking to win on points via a decision, as he knows a knockout is quite unlikely.

It’s not everyday you hear a boxer involved in a fight of this magnitude essentially give away part of his game plan, where even the promotion of the fight is being billed as relating to the two fighter’s main in-ring assets:

“Speed vs Power.”
