It was a weekend of action all over the globe for the sweet science and in the featherweight division in America, Mexican Leo Santa Cruz further solidified his undefeated record by beating Spaniard Kiko Martinez to defend his WBA super world featherweight title.

Santa Cruz came into the fight off the back of a close majority decision win last August over rival Abner Mares, but he left little doubt last night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as to what the outcome would be.

Right from the get go Santa Cruz established a plan of high punch output which overwhelmed the always tough Martinez, dropping the Spaniard twice in the very first round with right hands.

Martinez did well to survive the next few rounds, but the overwhelming onslaught from Santa Cruz was to prove too much for him by the 5th – promoting the referee to call a halt to the action.
