Next opponent
Unbeaten middleweight prospect, Tommy Langford (14-0) received confirmation of his next opponent as Polish national champion, Robert Swierzbinski (15-4) in a defence of his WBO Inter-Continental middleweight title on December 19th in Manchester, live on BoxNation TV.
Heading into his 15th professional contest, the Bideford-born, Queensberry Promotions star defends his title for a second time over 10 rounds against the worthy challenger from Bialystock.
Langford declared:
“It’s confirmed that I’ll be fighting Robert Swierzbinski in a defence of my WBO Inter-Continental title. He lost in November last year to Patrick Mendy for the WBF World title and in his last fight he was crowned the Republic of Poland middleweight champion. He has only been stopped twice and that was by Chris Eubank Jr., ranked number one in my division, and also to former IBF World champion, David Lemieux.”
The Birmingham-based ace claims to have struggled in finding opponents for his last fight of 2015, which has been an impressive year for him:
“My team offered the fight to several top fighters in the British rankings but we were turned down time after time, which was frustrating.”
He added:
“Once we knew we couldn’t get anyone experienced then we looked at people ranked higher than me and one potential opponent we eyed up was unbeaten and positioned 27th in the world rankings but he said no. I did want a big name in front of me as a test but I’ll still look to make a statement and put on a show for my fans.”
Preparation
Langford is a regular visitor to Joe Gallagher’s talent-laden gym in Bolton, sparring British super-middleweight champion, Callum Smith in preparation for his last fight in October and switching to older brother Liam, the current WBO World super-welterweight champion, in this training camp, speaking of which he said:
“The sparring I’ve received in preparation for this fight against WBO World champion, Liam Smith has been top notch so I’ll be firing on all cylinders regardless of who’s in front of me and my performance is going to be the best ever! I’ll be looking to get him [Robert Swierzbinski] out of there quicker that Eubank Jr. managed to do in his fight and to just put on a good show for my fans.”
It’s been a highly exciting year for the 160-pounder, which included attaining his first professional title, entering the World rankings, headlining a show for the first time live on BoxNation TV and doubling the KO count on his unbeaten record.

He concluded:
“It’s been a great year, I’m red hot at the moment and I’ve just got to keep the momentum going now. An impressive performance could book me onto the February 13th show with Derry Mathews and Terry Flanagan in the headlining world title fight which will be another big stage for me to perform on.”
