Unbeaten welterweight George Hennon looking to double win tally on October 17 in Essex

Young prospect looking to kick on
Maidstone-based welterweight prospect George Hennon (1-0) is looking to double his win count when he next fights at the Civic Hall in Grays on October 17th.
The 21-year-old Kent boxer will enter into just his second professional fight on the Carl Greaves Promotions show in Essex following a 13-year kick-boxing career that saw him crowned as the IKF English light-welterweight champion.
“I’m really pleased to have my next fight date,” said the 147-pounder. “I want to be as busy as I can but it’s the tickets sales that count because not everyone will buy tickets every month.
“I’d like one more [fight] before the end of the year, I know that Carl [Greaves] has got a Southend show in December that I’d like to get on.”
In June this year, Hennon completed his induction to the paid ranks with a points win over veteran Matt Seawright (5-115-5) at the same venue for his next scheduled bout in Grays Civic Hall on a Carl Greaves Promotions show.
Support, improvement and learning the trade
“I had some wicked support, sold over 90 tickets to all close friends and family. I had already built a bit of a fan base so had a few people messaging me for tickets from my kick-boxing background,” he enthused.
For a fledgling pro, the 21-year-old carries a lot of years of fight experience which was evident to see during his very calm and collected debut performance. He explained, “I watched the video back, there’s obviously loads of things to work on but I’m really pleased with the performance.
“I felt calm and composed in there. I felt so relaxed for this fight, with the kick-boxing I used to get myself hyped up for it but Johnny [Greaves] said to me that you only get your pro debut once so enjoy it.”
Hennon trains at the famous Peacock Gym in East London and is put through his paces by respected coaching duo Johnny and Frank Greaves.
Owning the same surname but no relation to the coaching pair, Carl Greaves is Hennon’s promoter.
He said of the boxer-turned-promoter who once owned the WBF World super-featherweight title, “He’s been wicked, I couldn’t ask for anything more, he gave me my space and he’s in touch to check how I’m doing regularly, he’s just a pleasure to work with.”
Hennon described what fans can expect to see different in his next performance, “More staying in the pocket”, he affirmed assuredly.
“On my debut, I’d get my shots off and then move away, so in my next fight I’ll stay in the pocket and sit down on my punches a bit more.”
The former kick-boxing champion enjoys top-class sparring with other young prospects in his Canning Town gym, “I spar regularly with Ryan Taylor (10-4-1) and Romeo Romaeo (8-0) at the Peacock Gym, it’s good sparring for us all,” he clarified.
The young prospect boasts a huge tattoo of an owl spanning across his entire chest and the fighting streak clearly runs in the Hennon family as 18-year-old younger brother Harry was recently crowned a Five Nations kick-boxing champion.
He concluded with a message to friends and family, “Thanks for the support on my debut, please come out again for my next fight and I promise it’ll be even better.”
Stacked card
The headlining fight on October 17th features local boxer to Hennon, Adam Dingsdale (13-2-1) from nearby Hoo in Kent contesting for the vacant English lightweight Championship (17-3) against Grimsby’s Kevin Hooper who gets his third crack at the title. Both boxers enter the title fight following back-to-back wins.
Middleweight prospect Liam Desmond (5-0) will be looking to extend his unbeaten run as he prepares for a maiden title test in December.
Another middleweight prospect Sonny Whiting (2-1) from Rochester, Kent appears in his fourth pro contest looking to improve his blemished record.
Tiptree light-heavyweight Darrel ‘The Baptist’ Church (2-1) gets a rematch against Angelo ‘Concrete’ Crowe (3-6) desperate to avenge his only loss suffered in June this year.
Paul Hilz (1-1), Joe Jackson Brown (2-0) and Shaun Hussein (1-0-2) will all be appearing on the same bill.
Two debutants complete the line-up in welterweight John Wheatley from Harwich, Essex and Nigerian light-welterweight, Idris Hill.
