Many are tipping the young amateur standout to go all the way in the pro ranks. After a sublime performance against Tommy Coyle on Saturday, they might just be right.

In what was Luke Campell’s first big test as a professional boxer on Saturday night in Hull, he took on the super tough and very game Tommy Coyle in a contest that on paper at least, was expected to be relatively competitive by many beforehand.

The result however, was very conclusive in the talented 27 year old Campbell’s favour, who showed his ring smarts to be an a very high level, backed up behind a patient southpaw stance.

Credit must also go to the very determined Tommy Coyle also, who’s relentless come forward ability made sure it was a fight to remember for lucky fight fans in Hull.

As much as he tried to get to Campbell throughout the contest, it just wasn’t meant to be. Campbell’s ring IQ was just too much on the night, and showed he was a class above.

The finish came in round 10, when Campbell caught Coyle with a beautifully placed left hook to the body which dropped the hometown favourite from Hull.

This was then followed up with the barrages that dropped the Hull man again on two more occasions, causing the referee to step in and call a halt to the fight.
