Tony Bellew might not be waking up as an undisputed cruiserweight world champion this morning like he had planned but can hold his head held high after a memorable career.
Never one to back down from a challenge or take the easy way out, in many ways fighting a boxer as supremely talented as Usyk in his final fight summed up Bellew’s career perfectly.
He who dares Rodney, he who dares.
He finished it how he lived it and made no excuses:
I tried my best and gave it everything I had! You my friend @usykaa are a great champion and the best fighter I have ever faced. You beat me fair and square.. I only wish you well going forward and thank you for the opportunity. ?

Bellew started the fight incredibly well against Usyk but looked to fatigue a bit as the fight went on.
Ultimately, he was in there with one of the very best fighters in the world who could go on to move up to challenge some of the heavyweight champions next.
All in all, hats off to Tony Bellew.
It will be some time before boxing produces a fighter as brave, honest and genuine as Tony Bellew.
A great servant to the sport. Happy retirement.
