Could Floyd Mayweather still beat Ryan Garcia comprehensively even at his age

Could Floyd Mayweather still beat Ryan Garcia comprehensively even at his age

Ryan Garcia proved to be in an entertaining bout last Saturday smashing up a limited Conor Benn inside of just the second round.

Apparently he is interested in the big fights next up and that’s great, if that is indeed his genuine motivation.

It is not entirely clear though if it is, but if it is, is there many bigger fights in America in boxing today, even at this stage, then a Ryan Garcia vs Floyd Mayweather professional boxing match.

Floyd has had massive problems and still is outside of boxing though and had meant to box Manny Pacquiao in a rematch that got shelved due to outside of the ring issues for Floyd.

He also had a Mike Tyson exhibition called off and an exhibition in Greece called off. Floyd is in turmoil outside of boxing, despite the sport doing great again at the moment, Floyd is not.

So, he’d possibly slightly be the A-Side in such talks for a Ryan Garcia bout but the bout itself is something that surely is something that is a big money fight for him that could bring interest for him.

Even at this stage and advanced age and advanced, crucially, amount of ring rust outside of the professional boxing ring for so long at this point.

It is years since Floyd has been in a professional boxing ring, the Conor McGregor fight many years ago at this stage.

He barely trained for that.

Garcia could maybe look at Floyd as a soft touch and a big pay day in theory if it could be arranged as a bout and certainly in America, it might be the biggest boxing fight that can be made.

A ready made 147 pounds division for such a bout too as Garcia competes there at the moment.

Stylistically a tough fight for Garcia though. Floyd’s defensive capabilities and pot shot counter punching something he’d struggle against, surely, even at this stage.

Even though Floyd’s legs are gone and he is shot to bits completely, he still has more than enough ability to outbox Rya Garcia if he can get in shape for the duration of a championship fight again.

Can he though, as, if he can’t, Ryan Garcia is younger, stronger and might have a bit too much heat in combinations for him to fend off for the entire duration.

Then again, if he can get in that shape, it is a counter punching type of fight for Floyd you’d have to think in that he’d look to get Garcia to over commit and catch him coming in and stepping into straight right hands all night long.

Pinging him using the lead right hand and right cross might play into Floyd’s hands for the sometimes over aggressive and certainly, unpredictable, Ryan Garcia, in terms of his form in the ring and outside of it in his preparations.

The fight itself might even do bigger numbers than both the Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney rematches even.

Let that sink in.
